Welcome all.
Bob and myself where talking today about what the Manderlust WorldMap Editor (for lack of a better name) would provide the end user.
Would provide:
---- Security to login -- Must be a registered user.
1) drawing/tracing
2) able to handle points, lines & polygons
3) trace satellite photos from google
4) Provide download and upload of map segments for registered users.
5) work with map data as vector (polish format).
Sounds simple right (LOL).
Bob will be helping with teaching about the file formats and integration with the map files.
I've been working with Java (J2EE) architecture for going on 10 years for a consulting company in Indianapolis, IN and I'm still learning new things every day.
My suggestion to Bob is to create a client application not a web enable application due to so many different browser constraints (for the time being).
I'm thinking of going down the direction of using either Eclipse or Netbeans as the Rich Client Program for a stable basis.
We will be developing the framework and then creating plugins into the decided upon platform (Eclipse/Netbeans).
To understand more about what I'm talking about here is some reading for you.
http://platform.netbeans.org/http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Rich_Client_PlatformNetbeans seems to be the easiest to get started with.
Yet I have use eclipse for years, I'll have to learn Netbeans.
Either one will give the project a leg up.
Feel free to message me with any question you may have.
