Wanderlust makes my Mapsource crash & become VERY slow !

Postby tedmagnum » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:42 pm

I have just reinstalled mapsource onto my Windows 7 (64-bit) laptop.

I am running mapsource 6.15.11

My city navigator maps are very fast but my registered Wanderlust maps (downloaded a few weeks ago) bring it to a halt and make it crash. Pretty much unusable.

Any solutions ???

Hi Ted,
Not heard from anyone else on this - I'll try to replicate the problem here.

Hi Ted,

I've updated my Mapsource to 6.15.11, downloaded WorldWest 2r03 & installed - all working OK and no speed issue.

Could it be something else installed on your computer ? Let me know what maps you have installed.

I uninstalled all the wanderlust maps and it works fine again now !!

I reinstalled "Worldwest-2r03", opened up mapsource, selected the map from the drop down menu and it "Hit the wall".. Mapsourse stopped responding and my pc locked up lol... .

It seems everytime I select the wanderlust map, mapsourse has a massive issue and crashes.

Are your maps tried and tested on Windows 7 64-bit ???? Thats the only thing I can think of !!!

Hi Ted,

What other map products do you have installed?

Cheers,
Peter.

I still cant replicate this problem.

Primary suspect is another map is conflicting with WorldWest-2r03 - I need to know what you have installed.

I think the answer could be here:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download ... sp?id=4879

MapSource software version 6.16.0.2 Beta

as of March 3, 2010

Change History
Changes made from version 6.15.11 to 6.16.0.2:

* Fixed memory issues and crashes when running MapSource under Windows 7.

...

As this is still beta you may want to wait a little while, or just install it in parallel, as the beta doesn't overwrite the current version.

Good luck.

Peter.

I'm glad it worked for you. Just remember that it's beta and keep an eye on the MS page for when the next version comes out. You could even get involved in the development effort on the Garmin forums by providing feedback.

Incidentally, to keep up-to-date with pages I found two nifty tools:

http://www.followthatpage.com/ will send you an email whan a web page has changed and

Updatescanner is a Firefox extension that does it from your own PC. Both are free.

Cheers,
Peter.

Well, it expires on the 24th April anyway. I guess thats when they are looking to release the full version. It's still a little slow compared to the genuine garmin maps but wanderlust always has been since i've used it. guess it's pretty memory heavy.

Thanks again !!

Had exactly the same problems. Have Map Source on a Win 7 (64bit) version and when opening Wanderlust Maps the program would crash.
The Garmin Fix did it and everything is working now. Hope the final release will come soon.
